Not to beat a dead horse... but have you checked out GoodSearch to benefit ONSC? If you like the Ozark Natural Science Center at all (and we're guessing you do if you're reading this), it's one of the simplest things you can do to support us without spending a dime (or more than two minutes).
GoodSearch is a search engine powered by Yahoo! It's compatible with both Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox, although not Google Chrome (tragically). You simply visit www.ONSC.us and click on the GoodSearch icon on the left of our homepage, and you'll be set in no time. You'll see a GoodSearch toolbar at the top of your webpage, and if you'll type your searches there, ONSC will receive about a penny every time you search the web. That's it!
So, say that you hop online 250 days out of the year and search for two items a day. Do the math - you'll be making a small donation to us annually without writing a check, maybe $5 - $10. Now... what if all of our 1,411 Facebook fans, 85 followers on Twitter and 49 LinkedIn group members did this, with a little room for overlap? Wow - that would be more than $7,000 in revenue for the Ozark Natural Science Center annually on a conservative basis.
Let me tell you - it would be time and money well spent. As you're probably aware, we'll impact the lives of more than 4,000 kids this year - many of whom will be experiencing the greatness that is the Ozarks outdoors for the very first time. We lose money on every single child who visits us - in the ballpark of $100,000+ every year - which we make up through our fundraisers, corporate partnerships and other efforts.
Here's the neat thing about the two minutes you spend downloading GoodSearch to benefit ONSC: it comes with a nifty tool called GoodShop. We'll be the first to say we were skeptical at first, but this is a very cool addition. Right next to the GoodSearch toolbar, you'll see logos for some popular online shopping sites, including Amazon and eBay. Basically, every time you shop online, a little yellow note (tiny, promise) will pop up and tell you that ONSC can receive 1% - 5% in cash back directly from the retailer for your purchase. Awesome! And, it will notify you of special GoodShop discounts and coupons such as free shipping. We pinky swear - it's not annoying, and there are some pretty cool deals. More than 1,400 retailers participate, and it is the cool places - like Amazon, The North Face, REI and others.
One more thing about that inconspicuous GoodSearch toolbar you're getting - it will be customized for ONSC - you can click our logo anytime to see how much money we've raised year to date!
Here's the best part: GoodSearch is running a giveaway throughout the month of October which allows participating nonprofits to earn even more. Here are the details: http://www.goodsearch.com/goodsearchgiveaway/. Would you tell a friend or two by forwarding this post with all the details?
We certainly hope if you love ONSC that you consider supporting us a number of ways - perhaps becoming a member ($25 or so a year), being active with the ONSC Corps or planning to attend events such as our Member Weekend (Nov. 13 - 14) and Call of the Wild (Apr. 16, 2011) or just connecting with us to show your love via social media. But seriously - if you do nothing else, please grab the GoodSearch toolbar and let it be working on our behalf when you're tending to your life. If you really love us, send the link to a friend or two as well!
It's a pretty cool deal - you keep on sipping your coffee and searching the web daily, and just about every click will help us in our work to enhance the understanding, appreciation and stewardship of the Ozark natural environment. How cool is that?
